Quick quiz
Which one is right for your team?
Five questions, about a minute. Scored against this page’s own comparison of Astro and WordPress.
Who will edit the site day to day?
The people making most of the changes after launch.
Comparison at a glance
So, which one should you choose?
The final choice usually comes down to how much upkeep you can carry, who edits the content, and how much work you want AI agents to do.
Astro
is usually better if:
You want a fast, secure marketing site with no plugins to patch, edited by your team and AI agents through git — or a headless front end for your Shopify store.
Best for agentic teamsWordPress
is usually better if:
You publish a lot, have a large editorial team that knows WordPress, or rely on plugins that would be costly to replace.
Best for editorial teamsHeadless WordPress
is usually better if:
Your editors love WordPress and you have years of content in it, but you want a faster front end. Keep WordPress as the CMS and build the site in Astro.
Best of bothStill unsure?
We build on both. Send us your site and your team’s shape and a senior tells you which one, and why, within one business day.
Year-one cost
What the first year costs on each, side by side.
One typical setup, priced the same way for both platforms: a new 30-page marketing site with a blog, three people editing it.
Plans billed annually, in USD · approximate, as of October 2026
Our work costs the same on either platform, so the platform line is the only difference: $0 to $600 against about $336 a year. Next to the build, it rarely decides the choice. Prices read from vendor pages on 24 October 2026.
AGENTIC WEBSITES
How AI agents work on each one.
WordPress is adding real AI plumbing. On Astro, the whole site is already code an agent can read and change.
A normal day on Astro
Claude turns a product launch brief into a landing page, links it from the nav and opens a pull request for a person to review.
What WordPress agents reach
Only what a developer registers as an ability through the Abilities API and MCP Adapter: posts and media, rarely themes or templates.
Production safety
A WordPress agent edits the live admin. On Astro it proposes a change and a person merges it after a preview deploy.
AT A GLANCE
Astro
WordPress
Built-in AI
None needed: the site is plain files
AI client and Connectors screen in core (7.0)
Outside agents
Any coding agent: Claude Code, Cursor, Codex
Abilities exposed by the MCP Adapter plugin
What agents can edit
Everything: components, styles, content, redirects
Only actions a developer has registered
Review and rollback
Pull request, preview deploy, instant rollback
Goes live from the admin, with per-post revisions
Astro is the better base for agentic sites. WordPress is catching up on content tasks, and headless WordPress with an Astro front end gives editors both.

7 questions
Is Astro better than WordPress?
For fast marketing sites and headless storefronts edited through git, yes. For a publication with a large editorial team that lives in WordPress, no. The table above is the honest version.
Is Astro good for SEO?
Yes. Astro ships fast, static HTML with clean markup, which search engines and AI crawlers read easily, and it gives full control over titles, schema and URLs. Speed and structure help; content and links still do most of the ranking work.
Can my marketing team edit an Astro site without a developer?
Yes, if it is paired with a visual CMS. We connect Astro to a headless CMS such as Sanity so marketers edit pages, posts and images in a browser and publish without touching code.
How do AI agents edit an Astro site?
Content and components live as files in a git repository, so an AI agent can edit copy, add a page or adjust a component through a pull request that a person reviews. On WordPress, agents work through the admin or its API, which is possible but less predictable.
Can you migrate from WordPress to Astro?
Yes. We export posts, pages and media, rebuild the templates as components and redirect every old URL to its new home. Most of the work is the design system and the redirect map, not the content move.
Is Astro cheaper than WordPress?
Usually cheaper to run: a static Astro site needs little hosting and no plugin renewals or security patching. The first build can cost more than installing a theme, so the saving shows up over the life of the site rather than on day one. Our pricing page lists build prices.
Can Creative Labs build in both?
Yes. We build on Astro and keep WordPress sites running for clients who want to stay on it, and we will tell you plainly which suits your team. For the store itself we usually recommend Shopify.
