What happens in Lagos
Lagos is the design and development studio: the place where most Shopify themes, sections and apps that ship under the Creative Labs name are actually built.
The Lagos team works on West Africa Time, which puts their full working day ahead of the US East Coast morning. Work scoped in Virginia on a Monday afternoon is in build by the time the client wakes up on Tuesday, and reviewed in Forest before the client sees it. For clients that is the difference between a one-day and a three-day turnaround on most theme changes.
Lagos is where Liquid theme development, Online Store 2.0 sections, Shopify app configuration, email template builds for Spoks and Klaviyo, and the design production work — product photography retouching, banner sets, Figma-to-theme handoff — happen. The developers here are the ones who have built the majority of the 800+ stores on our Projects page.
The studio is fully remote-ready, with the same tooling as Forest: shared Figma, GitHub, a staging theme for every client and the client's own Slack channel. Lagos engineers never contact clients directly; every piece of work goes through the Virginia lead who scoped it.
