How to use the numbers

Benchmarks are only useful when they are segmented the way your store is. A 2% sitewide conversion rate is good for a furniture brand and poor for a consumables brand, so every figure here is split by industry, device and price band.

The data comes from the stores we build and manage plus Shopify's published aggregates, refreshed each quarter. We report medians and the 25th–75th percentile range rather than averages, because a handful of very large stores distort any average on Shopify.

The metrics that matter most, in order: mobile conversion rate, checkout completion rate, average order value, returning customer rate, email revenue share, and the three Core Web Vitals. If your store is below the 25th percentile on two or more of those in its category, a sprint on the lowest one will usually pay back inside a quarter.

Use the benchmarks to set a target, not to judge a single week. Seasonality moves most of these numbers by 20–30% in either direction, and the comparison that counts is your store against itself over a rolling 90 days.
