How we set up Sanity
Shopify
Sanity on Shopify (Sanity Connect): Model the content, connect Sanity to Shopify products, build the editorial pages and landing pages, and train the team on the Studio.
Shopify store builds →Shopify Plus
On Shopify Plus (Sanity Connect): everything in Shopify, plus the Plus-only hooks (checkout extensions, B2B, Launchpad) where Sanity can use them.
Hydrogen
On a headless storefront (Hydrogen, Astro or Next.js) we connect Sanity through Native and own the event and data mapping ourselves.
USE CASES
What teams use it for
Editorial storefront
Lookbooks, guides and campaigns that reference live Shopify products.
Landing pages
Marketers build pages from approved blocks without a developer.
Localised content
Market-specific copy alongside Shopify Markets.

MODELLING
Schema decides everything
A good content model takes a week. A bad one costs months later.
PREVIEW
Set up live preview
Editors need to see pages before publishing. We wire preview on day one.
COST
Seats and bandwidth
Growth plans bill by seat and bandwidth; image CDN usage counts.

Sanity on Shopify, in practice
Sanity is the headless CMS we pair with Hydrogen and Astro storefronts when the store needs editorial content — lookbooks, guides, landing pages, rich product stories — that Shopify's own metafields and sections cannot express well.
Sanity Connect syncs products and collections into the Sanity dataset, so editors enrich them with content blocks, galleries and related articles while prices, inventory and checkout stay in Shopify. We define the schema around the client's actual content types, build the storefront components that render it, and set up previews so an editor sees the page before publishing. Structured content also makes AEO easier: every block has a type Google and answer engines can read.
For a theme-based store, Sanity is usually too much; Shopify's metaobjects and sections cover most editorial needs. It earns its place on headless builds and on brands with a content team that publishes weekly. We migrate content from WordPress, Contentful or Storyblok when a brand consolidates, keeping URLs and redirects intact.
Why Sanity instead of Shopify metaobjects?
Metaobjects and sections cover most editorial needs on a theme store. Sanity earns its place on headless builds and for brands with a content team publishing weekly, where lookbooks, guides and landing pages outgrow metafields.
Can Sanity work with a Shopify theme store?
It can, through Sanity Connect, but it is usually too much. Shopify's metaobjects and sections cover most editorial needs, so we add Sanity only when the content team needs it.
Does Sanity sync products from Shopify?
Yes. Sanity Connect syncs products and collections into the Sanity dataset, so editors add content blocks and galleries while prices, inventory and checkout stay in Shopify.
Who edits the content?
Your team edits in the Studio, and we train them. Marketers build landing pages from approved blocks without a developer, and we wire live preview on day one so editors see pages before publishing.
