GLOSSARY · S

Schema markup

Structured data (JSON-LD) that tells search engines what a page contains.

WHY IT MATTERS

Why it matters for a Shopify store.

Schema markup is structured data, usually JSON-LD, that tells search engines exactly what a page contains: a product with a price and stock, a review rating, breadcrumbs, an organisation.

It powers rich results in Google and gives AI tools clean facts to quote — a core part of SEO and AEO.

HOW CREATIVE LABS HANDLES IT

What we do about it on every project.

01

Audit what the theme outputs

Many themes ship partial or duplicate schema; we check it in Google's tools.

02

Mark up the essentials

Product, Offer, Review, BreadcrumbList and Organization, built from real store data and metafields.

03

Keep it accurate

Prices, stock and ratings in schema always match what's on the page.

EXAMPLE

A typical example.

A store's product pages show no price or rating in search results.

Clean Product and Offer markup is generated from Shopify data, reviews are added from the reviews app, and rich results begin appearing for those products.

COMMON MISTAKES

What usually goes wrong.

Duplicate schema

Theme plus app plus custom code produce conflicting markup.

Marking up hidden content

Schema must reflect what visitors can see.

Stale prices

Hard-coded values drift from the real price.
