Search Console
Search Console integration
Search Console is where Google tells you what it indexed, what it ranks and what it cannot crawl. We check it weekly for every SEO client.

SETUP BY PLATFORM
How we set up Search Console
Shopify
Search Console on Shopify (DNS verify): Verify the domain, submit sitemaps, fix coverage and Core Web Vitals issues, and pull query data into a monthly report that drives content and fixes.
Shopify store builds →Shopify Plus
On Shopify Plus (DNS verify): everything in Shopify, plus the Plus-only hooks (checkout extensions, B2B, Launchpad) where Search Console can use them.
Hydrogen
On a headless storefront (Hydrogen, Astro or Next.js) we connect Search Console through DNS verify and own the event and data mapping ourselves.
USE CASES
What teams use it for
Index coverage
Find pages Google skipped, duplicated or blocked and fix the cause.
Query reporting
Queries, pages and positions exported into a monthly SEO scorecard.
Migration monitoring
Watch redirects, 404s and ranking shifts for 90 days after a replatform.
BEFORE YOU ADD IT
What to watch out for
SETUP
Verify the domain property
Verify at domain level (DNS) so www, non-www and subdomains are all covered.
SITEMAPS
Shopify sitemap limits
Shopify generates the sitemap; headless builds need to generate and submit their own.
DATA
16 months of history
Search Console keeps 16 months. We export monthly so history is not lost.

Search Console on Shopify, in practice
Search Console is the only place Google tells you directly how a store is doing in search, and it is free. The setup takes ten minutes; reading it well is where the value is.
We verify the domain property (not just the URL prefix), submit Shopify's sitemap, and connect it to GA4 so search queries sit next to revenue. For migrations, Search Console is the audit trail: the old property shows what ranked, the new one shows whether the 301s carried it, and the Pages report flags redirect chains, soft 404s and canonical conflicts that Shopify themes create by default.
On a retainer we review it monthly: queries with impressions but low click-through get a title and meta rewrite, pages losing position get a content check, and Core Web Vitals and mobile usability reports feed the speed work. The one thing it will not do is tell you what a competitor ranks for — that is a separate tool, and usually a separate question.
How do we verify Search Console on Shopify?
Verify the domain property through DNS, not just the URL prefix, so www, non-www and subdomains are all covered. We then submit Shopify's sitemap and connect it to GA4 so queries sit next to revenue.
Why are product pages showing as crawled, not indexed?
The Pages report shows what Google skipped, duplicated or blocked. Shopify themes create canonical conflicts and soft 404s by default, so we fix the cause of each rather than just resubmitting the page.
Can Search Console data go into Looker Studio?
Yes. Queries, pages and positions export into a monthly SEO scorecard, with clicks and impressions by page group and month-over-month deltas, so the data sits next to the rest of your reporting.
What should we check after a migration?
Watch redirects, 404s and ranking shifts for 90 days. The old property shows what ranked, the new one shows whether the 301s carried it, and the Pages report flags redirect chains, soft 404s and canonical conflicts.
