Netlify on Shopify, in practice
Netlify hosts the Astro and static storefronts we build for brands that want a fast marketing site or a headless store in front of Shopify's checkout, with deploy previews on every pull request.
Astro sites on Netlify pull products and collections from the Storefront API at build time or at the edge, serve them as static HTML with islands of interactivity for cart and search, and hand off to Shopify checkout. The result is a storefront with Core Web Vitals in the green by default, and content editors get deploy previews before publishing. Netlify Forms, redirects and edge functions cover contact forms, legacy URLs and geo rules.
Netlify is not for Hydrogen — that belongs on Oxygen or Vercel — and it is not needed for a theme-based store at all. It is the right home for Astro, for a marketing site next to a Shopify store, and for headless builds where the client's team already lives in Netlify.
Can Netlify host a Shopify store?
Not a theme store. Netlify is for headless builds: Astro and other static-first storefronts, or a marketing site next to Shopify, with checkout handed to Shopify.
Netlify or Vercel?
Netlify is for Astro and Next.js and suits content-heavy sites and teams already working in it. Hydrogen belongs on Oxygen or Vercel.
Does Netlify support Hydrogen?
No. Shopify Hydrogen deploys to Oxygen or Vercel, so Netlify is not the right home for it. Netlify is for Astro and Next.js storefronts and marketing sites.
What does Netlify cost?
It is well priced for content-heavy sites, though image-heavy ones can hit bandwidth limits, so we use an image CDN. We confirm the plan against your traffic and build.
