SETUP BY PLATFORM
How we set up Airtable
Shopify
Airtable on Shopify (Make/Zapier): Design the base, sync products or orders in, build the views your team needs, and automate the handoffs with Make.
Shopify Plus
On Shopify Plus (Make): everything in Shopify, plus the Plus-only hooks (checkout extensions, B2B, Launchpad) where Airtable can use them.
Hydrogen
On a headless storefront (Hydrogen, Astro or Next.js) we connect Airtable through API and own the event and data mapping ourselves.
USE CASES
What teams use it for
Launch planning
Product launch tracker with SKUs, assets and go-live dates.
Wholesale pipeline
Account applications, pricing tiers and order history in one view.
Content calendar
Campaign, email and social planning linked to Shopify collections.
BEFORE YOU ADD IT
What to watch out for
SYNC
Airtable is not the source of truth
Products live in Shopify. Airtable mirrors, never masters.
LIMITS
Record limits per base
Order history outgrows a base. Archive monthly.
ACCESS
Share views, not bases
Give partners view links, not editor seats.

Airtable on Shopify, in practice
Airtable is the operations database behind many of the stores we work with: product information before it reaches Shopify, wholesale order sheets, content calendars and the supplier data that never fits in a Shopify field.
We connect it with Make or Zapier rather than a direct app: new or updated Airtable records become Shopify products or metafields, Shopify orders write back to Airtable views the ops team filters, and approvals in Airtable can publish products or change prices on a schedule. For B2B, an Airtable form plus an automation becomes a wholesale application pipeline without a separate app.
The discipline is a single source of truth per field. If Airtable owns product copy, the theme reads it through metafields and nobody edits copy in Shopify; if Shopify owns inventory, Airtable only displays it. We write that ownership down with the client before the first sync, because every integration problem we have fixed in Airtable started with two systems both believing they owned the same column.
Can Airtable sync with Shopify?
Yes, through Make or Zapier rather than a direct app. New or updated Airtable records become Shopify products or metafields, and Shopify orders write back to Airtable views the ops team filters.
Should products live in Airtable or Shopify?
Each field needs one owner, and we write it down before the first sync. Shopify holds the products; Airtable can hold product information before it reaches Shopify, or mirror it for operations.
How do we automate Airtable and Shopify?
We connect them with Make, or Zapier on lighter setups. Records become products or metafields, orders write back to ops views, and approvals in Airtable can publish products or change prices on a schedule.
Is Notion a better fit?
It depends on the job. Airtable suits structured operations data such as launch trackers, wholesale pipelines and content calendars. We choose based on what your team already works in.
