SETUP BY PLATFORM
How we set up Zapier
Shopify
Zapier on Shopify (Native app): Build the Zaps, add filters and paths, set up error notifications, and document each one so your team knows what fires when.
Shopify store builds →Shopify Plus
On Shopify Plus (Native): everything in Shopify, plus the Plus-only hooks (checkout extensions, B2B, Launchpad) where Zapier can use them.
Hydrogen
On a headless storefront (Hydrogen, Astro or Next.js) we connect Zapier through Webhooks and own the event and data mapping ourselves.
USE CASES
What teams use it for
Lead capture
New form submissions into your CRM, email tool and Slack.
Order notifications
Orders, refunds and fulfilments posted to Slack or a sheet.
Review requests
Trigger review or referral asks after delivery.
BEFORE YOU ADD IT
What to watch out for
COST
Tasks are billed
Every step is a task. High-volume stores outgrow Zapier quickly.
LOGIC
Branching is limited
Complex branching and data transforms are easier in Make.
DELAYS
Polling triggers lag
Some triggers poll every 1–15 minutes. Use instant triggers where available.

Zapier on Shopify, in practice
Zapier is the fastest way to connect Shopify to the long tail of tools a team already uses — Google Sheets, Slack, a CRM, a form builder — and the right choice when the volume is low and the logic is simple.
Typical zaps we set up: new order to a Sheet for a wholesale team, new customer with a tag to a CRM, failed payment to Slack, form submission to a Shopify customer record with a tag, review posted to a channel. Each takes an hour and saves someone a daily chore. Zapier's Shopify triggers cover orders, customers, products and fulfilments; for checkout or subscription events we usually go through the email platform's webhooks instead.
When a zap grows branches, needs to handle thousands of orders a day, or has to transform data between systems, it is time to move to Make or a small custom service — Zapier's per-task pricing and limited error handling become the problem. We tell clients at the point where that line is, rather than letting the bill tell them.
Does Zapier have a native Shopify app?
Yes. Zapier's Shopify triggers cover orders, customers, products and fulfilments. For checkout or subscription events we usually go through the email platform's webhooks instead.
Zapier or Make?
Zapier suits low volume and simple logic. When a zap grows branches, needs data transforms or handles thousands of orders a day, we move to Make or a small custom service, and we tell you where that line is.
What happens when a Zap fails?
We set up error notifications and document each Zap, so your team knows what fires when. Limited error handling is one reason we move complex workflows to Make.
Can Zapier handle thousands of orders a day?
Not well. At that volume, Zapier's per-task pricing and limited error handling become the problem, so we move those workflows to Make or a small custom service.
