GLOSSARY · S
Shopify Markets
Shopify’s built-in way to sell in multiple countries from one store: local currencies, languages, pricing, duties, payment methods and domains, managed from a single admin.
WHY IT MATTERS
Why it matters for a Shopify store.
Before Markets, selling internationally meant a second store or a stack of apps. Now one store can present prices in GBP, EUR and CAD, translate pages, calculate duties at checkout and run on country-specific domains or subfolders.
Done well, international becomes a settings exercise rather than a project. Done badly, you get wrong prices, untranslated checkout, duplicate pages in Google and surprised customers at the border.
HOW CREATIVE LABS HANDLES IT
What we do about it on every project.
01
Pick markets by demand
Analytics and Klaviyo tell us where orders already come from. We launch markets where there is demand, not a flag.
02
Set pricing deliberately
Rounded local prices, market-specific adjustments and clear duties — DDP where it makes sense.
03
Translate what converts
Product pages, checkout and policies first; blog later. Translate & Adapt or a professional service, not raw machine output.
04
Structure URLs for SEO
Subfolders or domains with correct hreflang, canonical tags and a sitemap per market.
05
Localise payments and shipping
Local payment methods, shipping zones and rates per market, tested with real test orders.
06
Watch the first 30 days
Conversion and refund rates per market, then adjust pricing and shipping where they bite.
EXAMPLE
A real example.
A Canadian home brand selling in CAD with US visitors paying in a foreign currency and abandoning at checkout.
A US market with USD pricing, a .com subfolder, local shipping rates and Shop Pay turned a leaky US funnel into a second home market — with duties shown at checkout instead of at the door.
COMMON MISTAKES
What usually goes wrong.
Launching every country at once
Each market needs pricing, shipping and support. Launch three you can serve well.
Machine-translating everything
Checkout and product copy need a human pass; untranslated error messages cost orders.
Ignoring hreflang
Without it, Google indexes your markets as duplicate pages and rankings suffer in every one.

4 questions
Is Shopify Markets included in my plan?
Yes on all plans, with more control (Markets Pro, custom pricing, B2B) on higher plans and Plus.
Do I need separate domains?
No. Markets can run on subfolders like /en-gb on one domain, or on country domains. Subfolders are simpler to manage and build authority on one domain; separate domains suit brands with a strong local presence.
Can you handle duties and taxes?
Yes. Markets can calculate duties and import taxes at checkout, and we help decide where delivered duty paid makes sense. Tax registration and filing stay with your accountant.
How long does an international launch take?
It depends on how many markets and languages you launch. Product pages, checkout and policies come first, then content. You get a fixed timeline in the proposal.
