A theme can only go so far. Headless separates the storefront from Shopify's theme layer so the front end can be built in any framework, while Shopify still runs products, checkout and orders.
It suits brands that need custom experiences, content-heavy sites or multiple front ends — and it brings more code to own and maintain.
